ἀγγράφω

A. engrave and set up publicly, of treaties, laws, and public acts, τὰς ξυνθήκας ἐν στήλῃ λιθίνῃ Th. 5.47; τὸν Δράκοντος νόμον IG 1.61, cf. And. 1.82; ἀ. τι ἐς στήλην, εἰς λεύκωμα, etc., Lycurg. 117, Lexap.D. 24.23; ἀναγραψάτωσαν τὸ ψήφισμα IG 7.303.44; ἀγγραψάτω ib.7.8; register, τὰ συμβόλαια καὶ τὰς κρίσεις πρὸς ἀρχήν τινα Arist. Pol. 1321b34 (Pass.):—Med., ἀναγρψάσαθαι συνθήκας have them registered, App. Mith. 70.

2. of a person, register or record his name, στηλίτην ἀ. τινά Isoc. 16.9:—Pass., to be inscribed or ntered in a public register, ἀναγραφῆναι πατρόθεν Hdt. 6.14, cf. 8.90; ἀναγράφεσθαι εὐεργέτης to be registered as a benefactor, as was the custom of the Persians, 8.85, cf. Th. 1.129: hence generally, μέγιστος εὐεργέτης παρ’ ἐμοὶ ἀναγεγράψῃ Pl. Grg. 506c, cf. Lys. 20.19, X. Vect. 3.11: also, to be registered as a state-debtor, Lys. 9.7:—generally, Ἄρθμιον . . ἐχθρὸν αὑτῶν ἀνέγραψαν D. 9.43; ἐν τοῖς φίλοις‐γεγράφθαι D.C. 38.44; Εὐβούλου κούρα ἀνεγραφόμαν became his adopted daughter, Epigr.Gr. 205 (Halicarn.):—Med., τὴν εὐεργεσίαν ἀνεγραψάμην εἰς ἐμαυτόν Corp.Herm. 1.30.

3. c. acc. rei, ἀ. στήλην set up a pillar with an inscription on it, Lys. 30.21.

b. Pass., to be registered, of a deed, PRyl. 65.4 (i B. C.).

II. of an author, write out, place on record, ὅσα ἄμφω ξυνέγραψαν, ταῦτα ἐγὼ ἀναγράφω Arr. An.Praef. 1; describe, X. Ep. 1.6, Arr. Tact. 1.2, Philostr. V A 5.37, Eun. VS p.476B.(Pass.); compose, Epicur. Nat. 28.5; of the mind, depict, imagine, Philostr. V A 6.19,7.14.

2. record, πράξεις Plb. 1.1.1, cf. D.L. 1.40, Longin. 13.3, etc.; commemorate, τινά Porph. VP 2.

3. describe lines and figures mathematically, ἀ. ἀπό . . upon a base, Pl. Men. 83b (Med.), cf. Euc. 1.47, etc.; ἀ. τὰς τῆς γῆς περιόδους Arist. Mete. 350a17; also of lines used as bases, αἱ ἴσα αὐτοῖς τετράγωνα ‐ουσαι Euc. 10 Def. 4:—Pass., τὸ τετράγωνον τὸ ἀναγραφησόμενον ἀπό . . that can be described upon . . , Id. 2.14.

4. reduce to a formula or prescription, δυνάμιες ἀναγεγραμμέναι Hp. Decent. 9.

III. entitle, Λούκουλλος ἀναγέγραπται τὸ βιβλίον Plu. Luc. 42.
