crave, yearn, v.l. for ἰσχ‐ in Il. 23.300, Od 8.288; τυροῦ ἀλώπηξ ἰχανῶσα Babr. 77.2:—Med., ἰχανᾶσθ’ ἐπαυρέσθαι Herod. 7.26, cf. Hsch. EM 478.44. (Cf. sq.; Ἴχανα, name of a town in Sicily, is derived from the root by St.Byz.: prob. cogn. with ἀχήν, ἠχήν; Avest. αζι‐ 'craving', Skt. īhate 'crave'.)
