A. to be alone, Hdn. 4.12.7, 7.6.7, D.C. 66.9; ἰδιάζουσαι Herod. 6 tit.; δωμάτιον ἰδιάζον secluded, Hld. 7.12; ἰ. πρός τινα to be alone with . . , ib.25; ἰ. θεῷ to be alone with God, Ph. 1.95; ἰ. πράγματι devote oneself to a thing, Com.Adesp. 414:—so in Med., of members of a chorus, sing independently, Arist. Pr. 922a35.
II. to be peculiar, ἰδιάζοντα γένη λίθων Phld. Sign. 28, cf. Jul. Gal. 143a; ἰ. τῇ φύσει D.S. 2.58; ἰδιάζουσα φύσις Id. 3.46, Hld. 2.28; ἰδιάζον συμπόσιον Ath. 1.12a; αἱ ἰδιάζουσαι ἀρχαί special principles, Dam. Pr. 134; of drugs, ἰδιάζων special, superior, Dsc. 1.14; ἃ ἂν ἰδιάσωμεν, ψευδόμεθα S.E. M. 7.133; ἰ. τινί to be peculiarly adapted to . . , Ael. NA 6.19; βωμὸς τῷ Διονύσῳ ἰδιάζων appropriated to D., Hld. 10.6: c. gen., to be the property of, J. AJ 16.7.3.
b. ἡ ‐άζουσα θερμασία its proper heat, Herod.Med. ap. Orib. 5.30.12.
2. Gramm., to be peculiar to an individual, τὰ κτητικὰ ‐άζει κατὰ τὸν κτήτορα A.D. Pron. 105.4, cf. Synt. 128.13, al.:—so in Med., [ὁ βασιλεὺς] μᾶλλον ‐άζεται τοῦ Πτολεμαίου ib.84.20.
