II. (ἕρμα 1.4) steady as by ballast, ἑ. ἑαυτοὺς λιθιδίοις Plu. 2.967b:—Med., ballast themselves, λιθιδίοις ib.979b : —Pass., τοῖς ἀξιολόγοις ἀγαθοῖς ἡρματίσθαι Phld. Mort. 18.
2. trans. in Med., νύμφας ἐς οἴκους ἑρματίζονται they take brides into their houses as ballast, E. Fr. 402.8, cf. Lyc. 1319.
