ἐπεικάζω

A. surmise, guess, ἦ καὶ δάμαρτα τήνδ’ ἐπεικάζων κυρῶ κείνου; am I right in surmising that she is his wife? S. El. 663; τάσδ’ ἐπεικάσας τύχω χοὰς φερούσας; A. Ch. 14, cf. 567; ὡς ἐπεικάσαι πάθη πάρεστι as one may read the riddle of their fates, ib.976; ὡς ἐπεικάσαι as far as one may guess, Hdt. 9.32; ὅσ’ ἐπεικάσαι (Bothe for ὡς) S. OC 152 (lyr.); ὥς γ’ ἐπεικάζειν ἐμέ Id. Tr. 1220.
