A. have strength enough, be able, ὥστε ποιεῖν Str. 17.1.3: c. inf. only, LXX Si. 7.6, Ep.Eph. 3.18, J. BJ 1.23.2; ἐξίσχυσεν τὰ βιβλείδια ἀθετηθῆναι procured the rejection of the petition, POxy. 1120.7 (iii A. D.): abs., prevail, Str. 16.1.15, Jul. Or. 5.160c; ἐξισχῦσαι καὶ κρατῆσαι τῶν πολλῶν Plu. 2.801e.
II. c. gen., τὸ δαιμόνιον παίδων ἐξισχῦον fate prevailing over the children, Ael. VH 6.13, cf. Steph. in Hp. 1.71D.
