I. causal in pres., impf., fut., and aor.1:
1. raise up, τοὺς θανόντας S. El. 940; make one rise from his seat, Pl. Prt. 310a; bid one rise from suppliant posture, ἐγώ σ’ ἕδρας ἐκ τῆσδε . . ἐξαναστήσω E. Andr. 263, cf. 267; ἐ. τὴν ἐνέδραν order the men in ambush to rise, X. HG 4.8.37.
2. make a tribe emigrate, remove or expel, ἐ. τινὰς ἐκ τῶν νήσων, ἐξ ἠθέων, etc., Hdt. 1.171, 5.14, etc.; ἄνδρας δόμων S. Ant. 297; ἐ. πόλεως bid one depart from . ., Id. OC 47; simply ἐ. τινάς Hdt. 6.127, Th. 4.98, etc. (v. infr.11.2).
b. challenge a juror, PHal. 9.5 (iii B. C.), PGurob 2.10 (iii B. C.), etc.
3. depopulate, destroy, πόλιν Hdt. 1.155, al.; Ἰλίου ποτ’ ἐξαναστήσας βάθρα E. Supp. 1198; Ἑλλάδα Id. Tr. 926.
4. ἐ. θηρία rouse them from their lair, X. Cyr. 2.4.20.

II. intr. in Pass., with aor. 2, pf. and plpf. Act.:
1. stand up from one's seat, Hdt. 3.142; ἐκ τοῦ θρόνου Id. 5.72, cf. Pl. Ly. 211a; θάκων X. Hier. 7.7; ὁδῶν τινί, in courtesy, Id. Smp. 4.31; rise to speak, S. Ph. 367; rise from ambush, λόχου E. El. 217: without λόχου, Th. 3.107; rise after dinner, Pl. R. 328a, etc.; πρὸ μέθης Isoc. 1.32; from bed, λέχους E. El. 786; ἐξ εὐνῆς X. 3. to be driven out from one's home, to be forced to emigrate, ἐξ ἠθέων ὑπό τινος Hdt. 1.15, cf. 56, al.; πρὸς δάμαρτος ἐξανίσταται θρόνων A. Pr. 767.
4. of places, to be depopulated, ἐξαναστάσης πάσης Πελοποννήσου ὑπὸ Δωριέων Hdt. 2.171; Τροίης ἐξανεστάθη βάθρα E. Hel. 1652, cf. D. 16.25.
5. rise to go to stool, Hp. Epid. 1.26.δ/, etc.
6. rise from the plain, of a mountain, Plb. 1.56.4.
b. so of ulcers, rise, Aret. SD 2.13; of an excrescence, κέρχνος ἐ. S. Fr. 279.
