ἐνυπάρχω

A. exist or be present in, τὸ ἔμβρυον τὸ ἐνυπάρχον Arist. HA 577a14; ‐άρχουσα ψυχή Epicur. Ep. 1p.21U.

2. to be immanent or inherent, τὸ πρῶτον ἐ., = ὕλη, Arist. Ph. 193a10, cf. 194b24; ἐν ἅπαντι χρόνῳ τὸ [νῦν] ἐ. ib.233b35; ἐξ ὧν (sc. στοιχείων)ἔστι τὰ ὄντα ἐνυπαρχόντων the inherence whereof is the cause of existences, Id. Metaph. 998a31, cf. 1014a26, Plot. 5.3.11, Jul. Or. 4.140c, etc.

3. in Logic, to be contained in, inhere, ἐνυπάρχειν τοῖς κατηγορουμένοις ἢ ἐνυπάρχεσθαι, of the predicates, to be contained in the subjects or to have them inhering, Arist. APo. 73b17; ἐ. ἐν τῷ τί ἐστι ib.84a25; ἐν τῷ λόγῳ Id. Metaph. 1022n29; τοῖς ὅροις Id. APr. 28a6.
