δεκατεύω

A. exact tithe from, τινά D. 22.77; τὰς πόλεις Jusj. ap. Lycurg. 81; τούτους δεκατεῦσαι τῷ ἐν Δελφοῖσι θεῷ make them pay a tithe to Apollo, Hdt. 7.132; of things, δ. τὰ ἐξ ἀγροῦ ὡραῖα tithe them (as an offering) . ., X. An. 5.3.9; δ. τοὺς Θηβαίους τοῖς θεοῖς Plb. 9.39.5:—Pass., ἀναγκαίως ἔχει [τὰ χρήματα] δεκατευθῆναι τῷ Διΐ Hdt. 1.89; ἐλπὶς ἦν δεκατευθῆναι τὰς Θήβας, i.e. that it would be taken and tithed, X. HG 6.3.20,5.35.
