A. any glutinous substance, gum, Hdt. 3.112; ὁ γλισχρότατος γ. Arist. Mir. 844a14, cf. Sor. 2.11, Gp. 20.13, POxy. 1220.16 (iii A. D.; γλυοῦ Pap.); esp. oil and dirt scraped off the wrestler's skin with the στλεγγίς, Sch.Ar. Nu. 449: generally, oily sediment in baths, Semon. 8, Telesp.41H.; γ. παιδικός substitute for butter in ointments, Hippiatr. 69.
II. as Adj. γλοιός, ά, όν, slippery, knavish, Ar. Nu. l.c.
2. = νωθρός, ἀσθενής, Hsch. Adv. ‐ῶς, = νυστακτικῶς, Id.
3. thick, παλλίολον CPR 27.9 (ii A. D.). (For γλοι‐vός, cf. γλία, γλίνη, etc., Lat. glūs, glūten.)
