A. the meed of valour, ἀ. διδόναι τῷ ἀξιωτάτῳ Hdt. 8.123, cf. 124; ἀπαίτεε τοὺς Αἰγινήτας τὰ ἀ. demanded of them the reward (they had received) for prowess, ib.122; τὰ ἀ. τῆς νίκης φέρεσθαι Hp. Aër. 23, cf. S. Aj. 464, Pl. Lg. 919e, Isoc. 9.16, etc.; ἀ. τῆς θεοῦ offered to her, IG 2.652, al.; ἀριστεῖον τῷ θεῷ ib.814a A 32, cf. SIG 276 A 9 (Delph.), D. 22.72: less freq. in sg. in same sense, Hdt. 8.11, Luc. D Deor. 22.3.
