2. abs., depart, πάλιν ἀ. E. IT 265; withdraw, ἐπὶ τὰ ἀναγκαῖα v.l. in X. Cyr. 1.6.36; esp. after a defeat, retire, retreat, Th. 2.89, etc.; πρὸς τὴν πόλιν X. HG 4.4.11; ἐπὶ τῆς Κορίνθου Th. 2.94.

3. ἀ.ἐκ τῶν πόλεων . . withdraw from . ., give up possession of, X. HG 5.2.13.

b. metaph., withdraw or dissent from opinions, δοξῶν Gal. 15.356, cf. Arr. Epict. 4.1.53.

III. of places, to be distant, μέρη ἀποκεχωρηκότα Plb. 15.27.8; ἀ. ὡς πόδα to be a foot apart, Apollod. Poliorc. 165.1.
