A. gnawer, nibbler: but in Od. 14.289, 15.416, Phoenician traffickers are called τρῶκται, greedy knaves; so τ. σφόδρ’ ἐστίν Com.Adesp. 606; and Gramm. explain τρώκτης by φάγος, φιλοκερδής, πανοῦργος, ἀπατεών, Hsch., Phot., Eust. 1757.51; φιλοχρήματοι καὶ τ. Philostr. Her.Prooem. 1.
2. as Adj., τρῶκται χεῖρες greedy hands, of a usurer, AP 9.409 (Antiphan., dub. cj.).
II. a sea-fish with sharp teeth, = ἀμία (q.v.), Ael. NA 1.5.
