an alternating wind, esp. one which blows back from sea to land, opp. ἀπογεία, Arist. Pr. 940b22, 945a6, Thphr. Vent. 31,53; tropaei (venti), Plin. HN 2.114; τ. is said to have meant ἡ ἐναντία πνοή in S. Fr. 1103 (where τριπαία, τρίπαια, τριπαῖα codd.).
