τρίμετρος

ον, τό
A. consisting of three μέτρα; i. e. in iambics, trochaics, and anapaestics, of three συζυγίαι (of two feet each); but in dactylics, etc., of three single feet: hence the iambic verse of six feet is called by the Greeks ἴαμβος τρίμετρος, Hdt. 1.12; so τόνος τ. trimeter verse, ib.174; ἔπη τ. Pl. Lg. 810e; τρίμετρον,τό, Ar. Nu. 642, Arist. Po. 1447b11 (pl.).
II. τρίμετρος,ὁ, a measure of capacity for oil, IG 14.422 iii 44 (Tauromenium).
