A. τετριηράρχηκα Isoc. 15.145, Lycurg. 139:—command a trireme, Hdt. 8.46, Th. 4.11: c. gen., τ. νεός Hdt. 7.181; τῆς Παράλου Is. 5.42; τ. ἐς Κύπρον Lys. 19.25.
II. at Athens, and in the empires of the Diadochi, to be trierarch, i.e. fit out a trireme for the public service, Ar. Eq. 912 (lyr.), Ra. 1065 (anap.); τ. πολλά Antipho 2.2.12; τριηραρχίας πολλὰς τ. Lys. 13.62; Γνώμη, . . ἧς ἐτριηράρχει Ἀπολλόδωρος IG 22.1627.250; εἰς τὴν ναῦν ἣν τριηραρχεῖ PCair.Zen. 36.5 (iii B. C.); οἶκος τριηραρχῶν a family wealthy enough for the trierarchy, Is. 7.32; ὅσοι . . τετριηραρχήκασι (at Teos and Lebedos) SIG 344.66 (iv B. C.):—Pass., τριηραρχοῦσιν οἱ πλούσιοι, ὁ δὲ δῆμος τριηραρχεῖται has trierarchs found it, X. Ath. 1.13.
III. in the cult of Isis, equip the sacred ship, τριηραρχήσαντα ἱεροπρεπῶς LW 1143 (Cius): cf. ναυβατέω, ναυαρχέω.
