II. as Subst. τετρώβολον, τό, four-obol piece, τετρωβόλου τοῦτ’ ἔστιν (as Kuster for τετρώβολον) Ar. Pax 254, cf. Plb. 34.8.8, SIG 982.15 (Pergam., ii B.C.), etc.; it was a soldier's daily pay, hence τετρωβόλου βίος a soldier's life, Paus.Gr. Fr. 307; so in masc. ‐ώβολος, of a common soldier, Men. Pk. 203.
