Phoenissae

drama

Fragments of a play — or possibly two plays — about Oedipus in exile and the civil war between his sons Eteocles and Polynices for the throne of Thebes. What survives is raw and powerful: Oedipus begging for death, Jocasta trying to prevent her sons from destroying each other. Unfinished, but the fragments contain some of Seneca's most intense writing.
