I. of or pertaining to the city Assus (in Troas): lapis, a kind of limestone, which was used for coffins, and in which the body was soon consumed: In Asso Troadis sarcophagus lapis fissili venā scinditur. Corpora defunctorum condita in eo absumi constat intra XL. dies exceptis dentibus, Plin. 36, 17, 27, § 131.
